The event is part of the activities leading up to the celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Day on Monday, January 18th, 2016. Jonathan is the first African leader to be so honored.

Jonathan also met Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s sister, Naomi King during the event. Before his remarks at the event, Jonathan met privately with the president of the SCLC, Dr. Charles Steele Jr, who proposed to work with the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation to advance the cause of peace.

Former President Jonathan responded that his vision is to help stabilize and promote democracy and peace in Africa. He went on to say that without peace you can not have economic progress.

Jonathan expressed his gratitude and said it is “impossible to separate this worthy body from its founder, the late great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, or from epoch making landmark events of the American Civil Rights movement.
“My personal takeaway from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, is service to God and the brotherhood and equality of all men before their Creator. In keeping with that, I have learnt not to look up to any man, except he is taller than I, or to look down on a fellow mortal, except I am admiring his shoes”.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has alleged that Nnamdi Kanu, its leader, is being tortured in detention by the Department of State Services (DSS), with the eventual target to “secretly execute” him.

The group, which is campaigning for an independent state for the Igbo, also alleged that Kanu was “very ill” and needed urgent medical attention.

“Information getting to us now is that the director of DSS and Buhari are planning to kill some Igbo-Biafrans working for the DSS in other to secretly execute Nnamdi Kanu,” it alleged in a statement published on its website “Biafra Herald,” on Thursday.

“For months now reports have been coming to us on how Nnamdi Kanu is been tortured in the dungeon of the DSS. Nnamdi Kanu is reported to be very ill and needs urgent care and treatment but the DSS on the order of Buhari have refused to grant him any treatment.

“Some Igbo-Biafrans who are members of the DSS have expressed their displeasure towards the treatment of Nnamdi Kanu, this resulting to Buhari and the director of DSS secretly plotting way to murder them. This information got to us is from a very reliable source and our advice to Buhari is to release Nnamdi Kanu, and also to stop torturing him because any harm done to him, will result to a war Nigeria can’t handle.

“We are calling on all IPOB members to get ready for action as instructions will be given by our deputy. We are calling all coordinators to start mobilizing all IPOB members and be on alert.”

TheCable spoke with Vincent Obetta, Kanu’s lawyer, who could not say the exact medical state of his client.

“I don’t know his state of health. They have refused to give me access to see him. I have made every effort to see him since 23 of December, but I have not been given access. So, I don’t know is condition now,” he said.

“If he is being tortured, I don’t know, but I got the rumour that he is being tortured. I am still pressing to get access to him.”

In December 2015, Adeniyi Ademola, justice of the federal high court, Abuja, had ordered the release of Kanu unconditionally, but the DSS failed to comply with the order.Instead, it filed a suit against him before Ahmed Mohammed, another judge, at the federal high court, Abuja, who withdrew from the case after Kanu refused to take his plea.

Kanu is accused of treason, ownership of unlawful society and illegal possession of firearms. The DSS could not be reached for an official reaction to the allegations.

These people keep showing Nigerians that it is better to steal Billions than steal few thousands to feed.

Imagine this scenario...politician is accused of stealing Billions of Naira and when he's taking to court for trial, the judge grants him N250m bail, just about 10% of the money he is said to have stolen. But ordinary man is accused of stealing N12,000 and a judge granted him N50,000 bail, over 400% of the amount.

A 27-year-old man, Dayo Rasaq, on Thursday appeared at an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ibadan for allegedly stealing one wood door and 12 planks.

Rasaq was arraigned on a two-count charge of stealing. The Prosecutor, Cpl. Nike Adeyemi, told the court that Rasaq stole one wood door value at N3,500 property of one Mufutau Akeem on Aug.15, 2015 at about 6:00am at Sango Sawmill, Ibadan.

Cpl. Adeyemi said Rasaq allegedly stole 12 planks of tick wood valued at N12,000 property of one Mrs Toyin Adegoke on Nov. 23, 2015 at about 6:15 a.m., at the same sawmill at Sango, Ibadan.

She said the offence contravened Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Laws of Oyo State.

The accused (Razaq) pleaded not guilty to the charges, just like our big men used to do.

But the Chief Magistrate, Abdulateef Adebisi, granted bail to the accused in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum, which is over 400% higher than what he's accused of stealing.

The chief magistrate then adjourned the case till February 25, for hearing.

“To deliver our development objectives, we have increased the capital expenditure portion of the budget from N557 billion in the 2015 budget to N1.8 trillion in the 2016 budget.“For the first time in many years, capital expenditure will represent 30 per cent of our total budget.“In future years, we intend to raise the percentage allocation for capital expenditure,” he said.

Sources say this guy is a yahoo boy who's living large from other people's sweat. Unfortunately for him, he reportedly ran mad today in Lagos Island. Below is how the story is reported:
The young man (name withheld) according to witness just packed his Range Rover SUV, jumped out and started tearing his clothes. In no time, he was totally undressed. Then he started moving around the mainroad of Lagos Island snapping himself with his iPhone and a cardboard held in his hand.

No one could explain what befell him but it’s obviously not something natural. Some persons around identified him as one of the yahoo boys.

Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, is predicting great doom for Nigeria in 2016.

In a statement released a few hours ago, Fayose listed the following 20 things he predicts will happen in the country next year:

Fellow Nigerians, I want you to take note of the followings that will unavoidably happen under the Buhari-led government in 2016.

    1. Workers Strike: There will be so much industrial unrest, especially in the first quarter of the year.

    2. Subsidy: There will be removal of fuel subsidy and petrol (PMS) will sell over and above N100/litre, leaving the masses in more serious hardship. Product will not be available and long queue in petrol stations will persist throughout the first quarter of 2016 and beyond.

    3. Electricity: Power generation will drop to the lowest ebb. Still, Federal Government will increase tariff in 2016.

    4. Unemployment: Millions of jobs will be lost in 2016 as against the three million jobs promised by the APC yearly. Most States and Federal Government will retrench workers as evident in the over 2,000 Federal University workers already sacked.

    5. Economic Policy: Most private owned middle-class businesses will fold up because of bad economic     policies of the Buhari-led government.

    6. Devaluation: The Naira will continue to have a free fall which will take it to as low as N320 to one Dollar.

    7. Economy: The Buhari-led FG will have no solution to country’s economic problems.

    8. Security: Boko Haram will keep spreading and the Shiite Muslims will get more emboldened.

    9. Human Rights: Penchant for dictatorship will rise with rampant human rights abuses and disobedience to court orders.

    10. Anti-Corruption: Insincerity in the fight against corruption will continue and the fight will not only be selective and political, but targeted more at Southerners.

    11. Elections: Attempt to forcefully control any of the South South States of Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Bayelsa by the APC will lead to unprecedented deaths.

    12. Economy: Crude oil price will fall to below and about $30 per barrel.

    13. Anti-Press Laws: The masses, especially men of the media profession will rise against the FG’s plot to deny Nigerians of their rights to freedom of expression. There will wide condemnations by Nigerians and the International community against President Buhari’s human rights abuses and disobedience to court orders.

    14. Polity: Renewed efforts will be made to remove Senator Bukola Saraki as the Senate President; this will not only fail, but will heat the polity.

    15. Hardships: Nigerians will experience more hardships. The President himself attested to this (THE SUN newspaper Tuesday, December 15, 2015). This obviously negates the change Nigerians voted for.

    16. Elections: Plot by the APC to take control of at least one South South State will lead to death of many people. Particularly, rerun elections in Rivers and Akwa-Ibom States will cause many deaths.

    17. Corruption: Halliburton scam may be revisited in 2016.

    19. Kogi State: Court will sack Governor-Elect, Yahaya Bello.
Bayelsa State: Governor Seriake Dickson will win the supplementary election.
Taraba State: Governor Darius Ishaku will be victorious at the Court.

    20. Politics: There will be subtle political alignment and realignment before the end of the year ahead of 2019 elections.
